Just the other day, I got an e-mail telling me that my domain needed to be renewed for another year.
So, that happened. It smacked me in the face when I opened the e-mail that morning to find that it has been a year ago when I decided to re-make my blog to something more “Susan-like”. Just a few days shy away from my official first year of launching my first post on this blog, I realized that I have been floating back and forth. And I know it’s been driving some readers crazy.
The last year has been an experimental year for me. After the semester started, I remembered I just decided to go home. Wait…WHAT? Just get through the semester they say. I really did try to get through it, but I couldn’t find the right reasons to push myself through. I got help. I had friends and family that held me through my long days. I went on meds. I tried to find distractions. But, nothing was working, so I just packed up a suitcase and went home.
And the year off was one of the best decisions that I ever made. It was hard at first trying to figure out a different routine. But, eventually I found my dance and along the way, established this blog to share anything and everything that brightened my day. I was lucky to try a variety of jobs, which did take a toll on this blog, but really got me to experience different fields. I hated some. I loved some. But, I knew having the freedom that I did wasn’t going to last long, as my final year of university has been weighing down my back pocket.
So, the car was packed up and off I head back to the little university city at the start of 2016.
Anxiety continued to grow before and after the move back. And as everyone and their mothers were drafting their New Years Resolution, I knew I couldn’t until I settled down. It’s been a month and it’s been a difficult adjustment period, but at 2 in the morning…I’m ready to set some sweeeeet goals for myself this year.
1. GO ON MORE ADVENTURES
In Toronto, I had a lot of fun trying new local restaurants with my friends. Moving out of Toronto, got me away from such a luxury lifestyle. Just a few weekends ago, my boyfriend grabbed my hand and hiked through Cootes Paradise in Hamilton, ON. I missed being around nature and it was such a fun adventure sliding through the icy paths. So, it’s on my list to hike more this year.
2. BLOG. BLOG. BLOG.
Ha! I know…I’ve been a terrible blogger the last year. But, humans are capable of changing…right? Blogging was a very fun and therapeutic activity for me over the past few years. Although I wasn’t as consistent as I would like to be, I want to make sure I incorporate it back into my life. I think about it all the time, but I never realize how fast time just flies by. So, expect more words, more pictures, and more love on Cup of Susan.
3. MAKING THE KITCHEN MY SECOND HOME
In Toronto, I loved to bake. In university, I loved to cook. But, both hardly happened together in one place. I had my fun eating all the creative dishes the last year. And now, I have to be the chef for myself. I’ve been following food blogs over the past month to pick up recipes to inspire me to try it at home…even if it’s just a new green smoothie combo!
4. GET BACK INTO REGULAR PILATES
Something that my friends and family get confused when I tell them I haven’t been to a pilates class in a long time. “But…aren’t you a certified instructor? Can’t you do it at home?”. Yes, I know…I can. But, going to a class is a complete different experience. It’s fun and engaging. And just experiencing the teacher’s knowledge and enthusiasm in the same room makes you really focus on building that mind-body connection. It really does make a difference…and even when you’re a teacher, there’s always room to learn more!
I’m excited to be sharing my never-ending chapter of my life with you all this year!
